![]() Above: New Cadillac instrument panel for 1974 took organization of controls
and ease of function to a new level of luxury and design. Across the top,
an information band of warning lights that get attention when lit. The
fuel gauge is also located in the top row, and a new precision digital
timepiece is located in the exact center of the car. Driver-only controls,
such as headlights, wipers, Climate Control, and Cruise Control are to
the left of the steering column. Other controls, for the power antenna,
rear defogger, sunroof or convertible top, map light, and the radio, are
located to the right of the steering column. Four high capacity air conditioning
outlets are spread across the panel at chest level for maximum air flow
and comfort. The gracefully curved panel added greatly to Cadillac's "lap-of-luxury"
environment, and was used on the Fleetwood Eldorado (with minor changes)
through the 1978 model year. |
