Did you know?
With customer satisfaction a top priority at Cadillac in 1967, any special
requests from customers would be honored if at all possible. So, if a cloth
pattern offered on another Cadillac model was desired over the material
normally provided on the model being ordered, it could be substituted by
special order at an additional charge.
Special orders involving trim deviations often added up to 4 weeks to the
scheduled delivery time of a new car, and the trim code on the data plate
would usually be accompanied with the letter "S" to denote its
special order status.
For instance, if the purchaser of a new Fleetwood Brougham preferred the
Duchess pattern cloth used in the DeVille Series over the Damascus Cloth
pattern used in the Fleetwood, their Fleetwood would be built with the
DeVille pattern cloth instead of the standard Fleetwood pattern.
Customers could also provide their own material, which would be used on
approval from Cadillac. (Cadillac wanted to make sure no cars were built
with questionable taste in color combinations or fabric patterns.) However,
normally only a few were built each year with non-standard trim fabrics,
as Cadillac offered a wide assortment of colors and materials, usually
enough to satisfy the requirements of even the most demanding customer.
