The 1966 Thunderbird introduced quite a few new options, including Highway Pilot Speed Control
with controls mounted within the spokes of a unique steering wheel, as
well as StereoSonic Tape System that played 8-track tapes through 4 door-mounted
speakers. The overhead Safety-Convenience Control Panel (a standard feature
on Town models only) was new, too, as was the optional 428 345-horsepower
V-8 engine.
1966 was the last year of the classic-era Thunderbird Convertible, with
many people at the time unaware that it was even being discontinued.
