Thunderbird received a royal endorsement in 1963, with the Limited Edition Landau model. Only 2,000 were built, with the first one presented to Prince Rainier
and Princess Grace of Monaco. The former Grace Kelly, Princess Grace previewed
color and interior trim selections for the special model. A splashy introduction
was held, with a nationally-televised special and a high fashion layout
in Vogue Magazine featuring the new Thunderbirds. The elusive Thunderbird Sports Roadster would be quietly discontinued at the end of the model year, after only
455 were built for 1963.
