Pictured at left: 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
Two new Thunderbird models appeared for 1962. The Thunderbird Sports Roadster, a convertible with real wire wheels, passenger assist bar, and removable
fiberglass Tonneau Cover that made it look like a two seater, but allowed
four passenger seating when desired, and the Thunderbird Landau, an elegant hardtop in formal attire with vinyl roof and color-keyed simulated
S-Bars.
A new seldom ordered Thunderbird 390 Sports V-8 ("M" code) engine,
which developed 340 horsepower and featured triple two barrel carburetors,
became available and added a high performance engine to the options list
for the first time since 1960. Very few Thunderbirds were ordered with
this engine, and some equipped with it were modified when new with a standard
4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold set up, making cars still equipped
with this option from the factory highly collectible in today's market.
