The 1959 Thunderbird sold in record numbers, and for the first time offered Lincoln's 430 cubic
inch V-8 engine as an option. Now firmly ensconced in the luxury class,
the Thunderbird was frequently seen at country clubs, social events, and
in the driveways of America's finest homes. If you were driving a T-Bird
in 1959, you had indeed "made it."
In a year of soaring tailfins and gaudy chrome on most other cars, the
distinctive T-Bird exhibited restraint and good taste. The highly sculptured
lines of the car didn't require lots of additional trim, and thankfully
Ford designers didn't add trim just for the sake of having it.
