A diesel engine option became available for the 1978 Cadillac Seville during the model year, as did a new ultra-luxurious Elegante option with brushed chrome side moldings, perforated leather bucket seats and console, and real chrome-plated wire wheels.

Other changes included engraved tail lamp lens emblems and side and rear color-keyed accent stripes.
