For 1974, the Riviera received a completely revised appearance. Gone were
the operable rear quarter windows, replaced with stationary ones that were
becoming all the rage, and the boat tail rear styling was axed, replaced
by a sleeker rear window and deck. Buick referred to it as "European
treatment." High mounted brake and turn lights rested just below the
rear window to catch the attention of those following.
Inside, a new instrument panel made the interior seem larger, and new patterns
and materials for the seat upholstery included ribbed velour and genuine
leather, which made the interiors quite rich.
Performance was not what it had been in the past, but the Stage One engine
and the GS ride and handling package were still available, and Rivieras
with these options are worth searching for if you're interested in a bit
more performance and a little tighter ride and handling.
