The 1970 Buick Riviera was advertised as "something to believe in"
along with the rest of the Buick line for 1970. Despite a modest restyle,
sales dropped off from the previous year by 29.4%. Just 37,366 Rivieras
were sold for 1970.
This was the first and only year for optional full, flush rear fender shields
which gave the car a somewhat heavy appearance from the sides. Rivieras
without them featured "High Profile Wheel Opening Covers" (shown
at left) which was a traditional Riviera look. A new thin body side molding
(not shown) was also available, which brought back memories of the old
Buick sweepspear molding of years ago.
