Image: 1963 Buick Riviera

Originally designed as a Cadillac, the 1963 Buick Riviera was GM's first real response to the Ford Thunderbird, and brought new attention to Buick Division, which needed something at the time to bring people into its showrooms.

Production was limited to just 40,000 units for 1963, to ensure exclusivity. The Riviera was a very clean and sleek design, that is generally recognized as one of the very best of the sixties.

Front and rear bucket seats with a center console and liberal use of ribbed metal throughout gave the interior a luxurious but sporty look, and emphasized its personal luxury car status.
