The beautiful and elegant 1955 Packards were still among the finest automobiles
made in America at the time, and were among the most elegant automobiles
that could be purchased anywhere in the world. Unknown to many at the time,
Packard was about to enter the final chapter of its long and distinguished
history, which makes the final Packard cars even more collectible today.
Shown below, the 1955 Packard Request was built for the 1955 Chicago Auto
Show, and featured an updated interpretation of the classic Packard grille.
It is said that this was done due to numerous requests for such an update,
hence the name.
Painted in a pearlescent white and copper two tone paint job, the 1955
Packard Request was a sensation that helped make 1955 a good year for the
company, but there were numerous quality issues with the cars, as they
were all new for 1955, and ushered in Packard's first V-8 engine. Sadly,
it would not be enough to save Packard.
