With the introduction of the 1962 Chryslers, buyers were confused by the
offering of a new, 300 Sport Series to the Chrysler line. Almost identical
to the 300H on the exterior, it was a very different car inside and under
the hood. Interiors were upgraded versions of the Newport, Chrysler's lowest
priced series. Under the hood, a 383 cid V-8 with 305 horsepower was fitted,
instead of the 413 cid V-8 with 380 horsepower used on the 300H. Sales
of the 300H dropped considerably this year, no doubt due in part to the
new, more affordable series bearing the legendary 300 name.
