A new 413 cubic inch V-8 appeared under the hood of the 1959 Chrysler 300E,
which featured a wedge-shaped combustion chamber. It was said to provide
performance equal to, or slightly better than, the Hemi engine that preceeded
it. Nick named the "Beautiful Brute," the 300E was a luxurious,
high performance car that was part of Chrysler's New Yorker series, and
was introduced on October 24, 1958. 550 Hardtops were built in 1959, and just 140 Convertibles rolled down the assembly line, making them extremely rare today. This was the year Chrysler promoted its products with the "Golden Lion" theme, and 1959 would be the final year for separate body and frame construction. |
