![]() Considered by many to be the first muscle car, the most powerful production automobile of the year was the 1955 Chrysler 300. It debuted with a modified Hemi engine developing 300 horsepower. Two four barrel carburetors coupled with a full race camshaft and heavy duty suspension made the 300 a true contender in the performance market, while an Imperial grille and standard full leather interior attracted luxury buyers as well. Equipped with solid lifters, a full race camshaft, and heavy duty suspension, all ensured that the 300 would perform and handle better than the other Chrysler products in the dealer showrooms. Despite a late introduction on February 10, 1955, Chrysler built 1,725 of its "100 Million Dollar Look" 300s in its first year, at $4,109 a copy. |
